WHAT IS CITRUS?
With unique patented technology, Citrus is the first residential and commercially viable door handle sanitizer. Citrus safely harnesses the power of UV light to eliminate 99.9% of pathogens on door handles - helping to prevent the spread of germs. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recommended regularly disinfecting door knobs and levers in residences, schools, office spaces, hospitals, nursing homes, cruise ships, and more.
HOW DOES CITRUS WORK?
Citrus disinfects doorknob/lever surfaces by emitting ultraviolet light at the “germicidal” wavelength of 270-285nm. This wavelength is within the ultraviolet-C band (UV-C) which has been scientifically proven to kill or inactivate microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc.) by destroying their nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA.

BACKED BY SCIENCE

Citrus disinfects doorknob/lever surfaces by emitting ultraviolet light at the “germicidal” wavelength of 270-285nm and a photon energy between 4.43 and 12.4 eV (electronvolts). This wavelength is within the ultraviolet-C band (UV-C) which has been scientifically proven to kill or inactivate microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc.) by destroying their nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA. Ultraviolet light is absorbed by a double bond in pyrimidine bases (such as thymine and cytosine in DNA), opening the bond and allowing it to react with neighboring molecules. Cells have mechanisms to repair this damage, but if the duration of exposure to UV light is sufficient, the repair mechanisms are unable to keep up with the rate of DNA modification and hence serves as a germicide. *
Determining the amount of sufficient UV-C light to damage microbial cells is done through cataloged empirical data. Known as Irradiance Dosage - this is the amount of energy needed to be emitted to the bacteria, virus, fungi, etc. to damage it at a cellular level and render it harmless. Each bacteria, virus, fungi, etc. has is own Irradiance Dosage requirements (Found in the Citrus FAQ). Irradiance Dosage is combination of Radiant Flux, or Radiant Power (per unit of time), and distance. The closer an object the stronger the Irradiance Dosage and vice versa.
Today, UV-C light is used in countless applications in order to purify the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the surfaces you touch. If you have city or municipal water your water coming out of the faucet has been sanitized using high powered ultraviolet lights. UV-C lights are everywhere and have been proven to work.
